Hibari turned under the covers, away from his window.  Rain was one of the few things he enjoyed, but it was a nuisance at night because he was just such a light sleeper that the noise on his roof kept him up.  The rain persisted, it actually seemed to have gotten louder.  Hibari glared into the darkness of his room, before sitting up.  Sleep was avoiding him, and he had no motivation to seek after something he could not achieve.  So he sat up, and left his bed.  Surely there was something that he could do to take up the hours between now and daybreak.

He ended up outside of his house, letting the rain soak through the black jacket he’d thrown on over his night clothes. He could feel the rain on his skin soon after he left the shelter of his home, it was raining a bit harder than it seemed.  He shrugged off the cold and simply walked, not caring that it was raining and the middle of the night, or that he was alone and had no destination.  He never had cared much about the little things anyway.

It wasn’t long before he was standing before Namimori High, where he knew he would eventually end up anyway.  It had to be his favorite place on the face of the planet, most likely because he controlled the school and everyone in it.  It was easy to rule over a bunch of herbivores.

Rain pounded down on the sidewalk he stepped on, made his hair stick to the sides of his face, making his clothes a second skin.  He heard footsteps that weren’t his own, only partially concealed by the rain.  He had his tonfas in hand in less than a second.  He never left home without them, because he never knew when he’d need them.

Suddenly his back hit the wall that protected the school from trespassers.  There was a wet splattering sound as his soaked form hit the bricks. His reaction is quick, his arms and tonfas are blocking his front before he can think to move them there.  He hears a laugh; Its familiar and sends shivers down his back for various reasons.   He’s angry and excited and suddenly in the perfect mood for anything, as long as he gets to bite someone to death.

“Kufufu, sharp as always, Hibari.” Rokudo Mukuro smirked at him, it was almost a leer.   “What would one such as you be doing here, skulking around the school at night?  And in the rain no less?”

Hibari moved forward quickly, though he was impeded by the taller boy.  He snarled and snapped his teeth, as through threatening to bite Mukuro.  Rokudo just raised an eyebrow, amused.

“I should be asking you that.  What are you doing near my school at this time of night?”

“Hm,” Mukuro shrugged, before allowing the other room to move, but not too much.  “Perhaps I was hoping to catch a pretty bird on this fine night.”

“Asshole, I’ll bite you to death.”

“I think I’ve heard that before...” Mukuro taunted, knowing full well that it irked Hibari to be reminded of his loss against Mukuro.  Of course, Hibari had improved since then, and now he was sure that as long as there weren’t any sakura around he could win against Mukuro.  But then again, now they were somehow sort of on the same side.  Being considered a mafioso meant that Hibari got to beat the daylights out of a much wider range of people than before, but for the first time ever there were  people who were off-limits to him.  Not to say that could really stop him from taking out those who annoyed him.

“Come with me, there’s no point in just standing here,” Mukuro said, suddenly turning away from Hibari.  Hibari could find no reason to humor Mukuro, though he really wasn’t doing anything anyway, and who knew what the Kokuyo student would do if left alone near his beloved school?  And so he walked, without a direction or purpose, once again.

“It was unexpectedly easy to capture you, I expected some resistance,” Mukuro said, with mock-surprise. Hibari scowled.

“You haven’t “captured” anyone, I’ve come of my own volition.”

“But in this situation, it would be so easy to change that.”   Guard heightening impossibly, Hibari’s fingers curled tighter around the handles of his tonfas.

“What, pray tell, would you do if the situation did change in that way?”  Hibari was just a bit curious as to why the holder of the mist ring was making it seem as though he had been looking for Hibari, it was almost as if he’d expected Hibari to come.  Mukuro had always been a tricky one to figure out.  He was never clear, as hazy as the mist he embodied.

“Kufufu... Wouldn’t you like to know?” Hibari couldn’t help but hate the laugh that always signaled some form of trickery on Rokudo’s part. “Well, I’d have to say,” Mukuro started again, a sly grin spreading over his feature, “Because you are how you are, it’d have to start like this.”  Mukuro reached up, grabbed something, and brought his hand back down.   Hibari’s eyes followed the motion of his hand, and he couldn’t help but grimace at the sight.  Without realizing it, he’d allowed himself to be walked into a park, surrounded by sakura trees. How careless of him, he should’ve paid more attention.

Mukuro opened his hand, which was filled with sakura petals, and blew them towards Hibari.

“I would have to immobilize you first, lest I give you the chance to run away.” Hibari swore under his breath as he fell to his knees. Mukuro smirked down at him for a moment, letting his usual laugh slip through his lips.  He crouched down in front of Hibari, his face still higher up, but much closer to Hibari’s level.

Mukuro slid two fingers up the column of Hibari’s neck, brought them to the Japanese boy’s chin, and tilted his face upward.  “Step two needs no explanation.” Mukuro leaned down and happily claimed Hibari’s lips for himself.  Hibari wasn’t quite sure if he wanted to bite the blue-haired boy or just enjoy himself.  Maybe he could just enjoy himself while it lasted, and then bite Mukuro to death?  That way Hibari would win no matter what. There was just this one problem with his inability to move...

Their kiss ended when the need for air became too great to refuse. Hibari only then became aware of the rain again, as it washed away the indiscernible traces of their lips’ union.  It was making the petals that had landed in his hair and on his jacket stick to him too.

Suddenly, Hibari wasn’t on the ground on his knees.  Instead, the world spun around him for a moment, before he found himself suspended off the ground, looking at the cement walkway as it went by.

“Oi!  Put me the hell down!”  Hibari yelled as he pounded on Mukuro’s back; That pineapple head had the audacity to carry him over his shoulder!

“The sakura complement you so well.  I simply must play with you some more now.  But if we stay outside you’ll catch cold, and what fun is that?” Mukuro went on with a cheery “I’ve just won over you” tone of voice.  Hibari huffed and mumbled swears under his breath.  This damned illusion user pulled these kinds of stunts way too often.

“What the hell am I?  A toy?”

“Yes, yes!  My most favorite and most interesting one too.”

“I’m biting you to death as soon as I can.”

“I look forward to it.”
